Perennial Games

Abstract

The perennial games project is an in-depth investigation of narrative in ongoing live-service games, such as Destiny 2, League of Legends, and Final Fantasy XIV. Through mixed methods studies of players, developers, and games, this project investigates how the ongoing development of narrative affects a community of players, helps the community grow and change, while also affecting the game and its developers in turn through an ongoing interaction. This has been studied with interviews, a long-running ethnography of the Destiny 2 community, and game analysis.
